We hope to have a 2012 Spring Tree Walk scheduled soon - date to be announced.

Snohomish Parks Foundation Board meeting
January 19, 7pm
607B Pearl Street, Snohomish

Here are some terrific park-related updates from Ann Stanton!

1. Bill Fulton has offered a number of native tree seedlings (3-4 feet tall) for city parks.  Mike Johnson and I are following up on this generous offer.

2. Washington State Department of Ecology has Blackmans Lake in mind for a habitat/lakeshore/water quality grant application/project.  I’ll try to keep you up to date on this developing project as I learn more.  DOE contacted us last year about this time for this project but the funding was pulled or something.  I was happy to hear from them again this week.

3. Mike Johnson confirmed a play structure was specified for Claytown and he will work on getting the info to me, although it may take him some time due to competing priorities.  I will follow up with my commitment to the Foundation to request a current catalog and price list from a local play equipment distributor which carries items that meet our requirements.

4. Lagoon:  The City Council meeting schedule includes a discussion item on January 17 for a project to develop wildlife viewing opportunities, etc. utilizing both city-owned and Pilchuck Audubon property at the mouth of Cemetery Creek.  This location is part of the area designated as “Riverfront Park West in our long range park plan (West meaning “West of Avenue D”.)  You might want to attend the meeting and participate in the discussion.  While there is no funding for capital improvements at this time, the 2012 project currently envisioned is to develop a master plan for future grant applications or other funding strategies.

5. Work on the Centennial Trail Extension is currently suspended due to winter weather.  The schedule calls for work to occur in February to complete storm drainage, sidewalk and bench/trash can/interpretive sign installation work, soil improvements in March, and planting, paint striping, etc. in March/April.  Park dedication is expected to occur in May; hope to see you there!
